Love in a Small Town Play Lists

The Last One Playlist

THE LAST ONE takes place in a small town in Georgia, and its setting definitely influenced its playlist. Sam is a huge fan of country music, and although Meghan doesn’t think she likes it, eventually it grows on her. . .as much as Sam does.
Chicken Fried     Zak Brown Band  (Perfect Georgia song)

T R O U B L E      Travis Tritt (Meghan and Laura at The Road Block)

Red High Heels     Kellie Pickler (Meghan and Ali’s night out)

Ladies Love Country Boys    Trace Adkins (Enough said.)

Don’t You Wanna Stay    Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson (Meghan and Sam on the porch)

Fishin’ In The Dark    Nitty Gritty Dirt Band  (Sam takes Meghan to the river)

Trouble Is     Charlie Worsham (Exactly how Sam feels about Meghan)

A Little Mud on the Tires     Brad Paisley (Another river song)

It’s Your Love  Tim McGraw and Faith Hill (The song that converts Meghan to country music)

Burn    Jo Dee Messina (Sam and Meghan’s last night together)

Beat This Summer   Brad Paisley (Sam and Meghan’s theme song)

The First One Playlist

The songs on The First One playlist are much more bittersweet than those of the other books in this trilogy. Thanks to the nearly eight years Flynn and Ali were apart, their feelings are complicated, and the music reflects that heartache.

When I was writing their story, I went back to some of my own country music roots to find just the right songs. That included some old Little Texas, Tim McGraw and Rascal Flatts. Of course, the defining song for Ali and Flynn is Tim McGraw’s Everywhere.

What Might Have Been     Little Texas (What goes through both Ali and Flynn’s minds as they contemplate the lost years)

Where the Green Grass Grows     Tim McGraw (Flynn considers a life in Burton)

All My Friends Say     Luke Bryan (Flynn’s night out with Alex at The Roadblock)

Bartender     Lady Antebellum (Ali’s night out with Meghan at The Roadblock)

Small Town Saturday Night     Hal Ketchum (a captured memory of Ali and Flynn’s growing up days)

What Hurts The Most     Rascal Flatts (Ali’s song)

Already Home     Ha-Ash with Brandi Carlile (Flynn’s song)

Everywhere     Tim McGraw (The song that inspired their story)

The Only One Playlist

As I write this, updating the playlist section of my website for the last time until my next release, it’s two days before The Only
One
goes live. I can’t wait to share Rilla and Mason with the rest of the world . . . and so it’s really fun to let the playlist give you a few hints about what’s to come.

This is country, of course, and if you want some more insight into how the music affected the story, check out my post here.

For now, without further ado, here is the playlist for The Only One.

Those Crazy Christians               Brad Paisley (Rilla and her family at church)

On The Verge                                Colin Raye      (Rilla’s evening at The Road Block)

Without You                                  Keith Urban   (Mason’s song)

Limes                                               Brad Paisley   (Rilla’s first margarita)

Stay Forever                                Hal Ketchum     (Rilla and Mason’s dance)

If I Didn’t Have You                   Thompson Squared (Just. . .a great love song for these two.)

If You Leave Me Now                 Suzy Bogguss   (Mason’s feeling about Rilla)

Long, Long Time                        Mindy McCready   (Rilla, when she leaves)

Me and Jesus                              Brad Paisley   (Rilla by the end)

I Always Get Lucky With You Suzy Bogguss   (Mason’s love song to Rilla)

And a bonus song not on the official playlist, but certainly important. . .

Come On Eileen                 Dexy’s Midnight Runners

Peace, love and romance~
