Release Day: JUST ROLL WITH IT

Sometimes, the best-laid plans don’t work out the way you expect.

When law school student Amanda Simmons shows up at her friends’ engagement party, she’s not expecting to indulge in a wild one-night stand with the bride’s older brother. On the other hand, Vincent DiMartino is smart, sexy—and safe. He doesn’t want more than a quick hook-up, either.

Or so she thinks.

Vincent isn’t interested in long-term, and he has no desire for a serious relationship. His job as a pastry chef in his family’s restaurant demands all of his time and attention. His night with Amanda is supposed to be just that—one night. But he doesn’t bargain for how much he enjoys her sense of humor, her intelligence and her sass . . . not to mention her unrepentant sensuality.

Now that he realizes he wants more than just her body, can Vincent persuade Amanda to take a chance on him? Will she risk her heart on the man who was only supposed to be a fling?

Sometimes plans go awry. And sometimes, you just have to roll with it.

Welcome to Burton . . .

If you find yourself in the historic and intriguing town of Savannah, Georgia, take a little ride west. Drive west for a spell on Highway 280, and you’ll run across a series of small towns. Most of them have populations under 5,000.

This is where you’d find Burton.

The town grew up organically, according to the local historians. Way back before the Revolution, families settled in what was then wilderness. They began farming, and eventually, they established a small town with schools, churches and commerce.

Even now, Burton isn’t a bustling metropolis by any means. The town has some restaurants–Kenny’s Diner, which has amazing pie; Franco’s, the pizza place; Smokey Joe’s, the barbecue pit; and of course, the newest entry, the Road Block, a restaurant/bar/club which is technically located outside town. That place was opened fairly recently by Mason Wallace, the local boy who made good in Nashville and then returned home to raise his daughter and take care of his mama.

The bakery, which is owned by Kiki Payton, is on a small road just off Main Street. Kiki’s niece, Sydney, runs the gourmet pet food place next door, and she also helps her aunt out whenever Kiki is away, which happens a lot lately, since she and–well, I don’t like to gossip. But let’s just say Kiki is on the road quite a bit.

The Burton Gazette has its offices nearby, too. Will Garth is a one-man show, doing most of the writing, the printing and the layout.

Boomer’s auto shop is smack dab on Main, and it’s a good thing, because he’s the only car place for miles around. Boomer and Millie’s daughter Jenna–their youngest–works at the Historical Society, and she’s been busy lately heading up some restorations of local houses. She does a good job.

Millie works at the veterinarian office on the edge of town. It’s been taken over recently by Maureen Evans and her partner, Smith Harrington. Maureen’s mom is the town’s librarian, and her brother Flynn is back in town now, after years of living away. There’s a story with him, for sure.

The farms surrounding Burton are as much a part of the community as anyone living in the town borders. Sam Reynolds and his sister Ali still run the farm stand that’s been in their family for generations. Their farm produces most of what they sell. The Nelsons’ place is just next door to the Reynolds’ farm. Alex Nelson lived in Atlanta for a while, but life has taken him elsewhere lately.

There are more stories in this small town than you might think. If you don’t believe me . . . go sit down on a bench alongside the village green and look around. Listen. You just might see Tori Westin with her mysterious new boyfriend. Or Ashley Webbar, whose hair salon is doing booming business, scheming to do some matchmaking.

Come to Burton, but remember, if you do . . . be ready to fall in love. Because around here, happily-ever-afters are a specialty of the house.

Teaser Tuesday: NOT BROKEN ANYMORE

It’s TEASER TUESDAY, which means you get a sweet little taste of Tate and Gia goodness.

This entire chapter is one of my favorites. You get to know Tate a little better through Gia’s eyes . . . and if you don’t swoon headfirst into love with this guy, I don’t know what’s wrong with you! 😉

Enjoy!

Tate made a beeline for the sundries aisle, where he immediately picked up a dish brush, casting a meaningful look over his shoulder at me as he did. I rolled my eyes but kept my mouth shut. I didn’t raise a fuss about any of his choices until he tucked under his arm a small box with a picture of an electric mixer on the front of it.

“Wait a sec,” I objected. “You’re not buying me appliances.”

He flickered his gaze toward me. “Do you have a mixer, Gia? Any kind of mixer?”

“I have a wooden spoon. I think. It satisfies all my mixing needs.”

“That spoon won’t work for what I have in mind.” He held the box out toward me. “This is cheap. I promise, I’m not breaking the bank. And if it makes you feel better, I can take it home with me when I leave tonight.” When I didn’t answer right away, he added, “It’s a mixer, Gia. It’s not a lifetime commitment. Or even a weekend-long commitment. C’mon. Don’t be unreasonable about this. It’s not charity or sympathy or a pity gift. It’s a mixer. That’s all.”

He made it very hard for me to form a rational argument. “Fine. But that’s it. Nothing else. I’m walking to the check-out counter now, and if you know what’s good for you, you’ll be right behind me.”

He grinned and gave a small bow. “Your wish is my command, mistress.

Football is everything, but love is the only game that matters.

Tate Durham, the newest Philadelphia football hottie, has been in love with Gia Capri since the moment he laid eyes on her back in college. Unfortunately, that happened the same night her destructive and doomed relationship with the troubled Matt Lampert began. Tate didn’t stand a chance.

In the year since Matt took his own life, Gia’s been sleep-walking through her days and just barely surviving her nights. She’s not sure that she’s capable of anything else . . . until Tate finds her sitting on the floor of a grocery store, crying over potato chips.

Tate’s patience and honesty begins to heal what’s broken in Gia’s soul. Still, no matter how hard he tries—or how much he loves her—making her whole again might take more than he can give.

But love never gives up. And neither will Tate.

From the corner of my eye, I saw Mary pass us and move towards her chair. Her cheeks were flushed from the dance she and the other ladies had just finished. There was a little glistening along her brow and she grabbed a napkin to wipe it away. The music segued from a fast, heavy beat into a slow romantic tune.

I stood immediately and headed in her direction, even though Pas Bon was talking to me again. I captured her green eyes in an intense gaze as I approached, then put out my hand to her. She took it, sliding her fingers against my palm, then clutching me as I pulled her to her feet.

She fit in my arms perfectly and I wrapped one arm around her waist to hug her as close as possible. She tightened her fingers around my hand as we began to sashay to the music then leaned fully into me and placed her chin on my shoulder. I’d never had a woman dance with me quite like this before. She seemed to give everything over to my direction, moving effortlessly as one with me. I swallowed, then took a deep breath that let me inhale the sweet, honey scent of her hair.

“Do you all do this often?” I asked, my voice a little gravelly.

Her head rubbed up against mine as she nodded, “Usually on Sunday nights actually. Most of the tourists from the week before are gone so…”

I snorted a little chuckle, “I’m crashing the party, then.”

I felt the vibration of her own laughter, “Well, you’re different.”

Pausing my steps, I shifted so that my mouth was just beside her ear, “Why am I different?”

I was sure the tremor I felt that time was from a shiver running down her spine. Her fingers dug into me and as close as we’d been, she managed to inch even snugger in my arms, “You tell me, Austin. Why are you different?”

“I’m not. I’m just a guy here for a short break on his way home from business. A guy who was lucky enough to get invited to this shindig so he could dance with you. That’s all.”

She leaned back so she could wink at me, “You are lucky, aren’t you?”

About the Author

olivia hardin pic b&w.jpg

When Olivia Hardin began having strange movie-like dreams in her teens, she had no choice but to begin putting them to paper. Before long the writing bug had her and she knew she wanted to be a published author. Several rejections plus a little bit of life later, and she was temporarily “cured” of the urge to write. That is until she met a group of talented and fabulous writers who gave her the direction and encouragement she needed to get lost in the words again.

Olivia’s attended three different universities over the years and toyed with majors in Computer Technology, English, History, and Geology. Then one day she heard the term road scholar and she knew that was what she wanted to be. Now she “studies” anything and everything just for the joy of learning. She’s also an insatiable crafter who only completes about 1 out of 5 projects, a jogger who hates to run, and she’s sometimes accused of being artistic.

A native Texas girl, Olivia lives in the beautiful Lone Star state with her husband, Danny and their puppy, Bonnie.
