The Only One Bonus Epilogue
Mason
“This was the best idea ever.”
Next to me in the truck, Rilla tossed me a brilliant smile. “It was your idea, Mason.”
“Oh, yeah, it was, wasn’t it?” I winked at my wife. “Well, then, it’s not a surprise. I always have the best ideas.”
“That may be true, but it’s possible that humility isn’t your gift.”
“Yeah, I’ve heard that before.” I chuckled. “But in this case, I’m ready to share credit. After all, the wedding re-do was your idea, babe.”
“And it was so much fun.” Rilla clasped her hands together. “Having all of our friends together at the Road Block, everyone having fun and all the food and music . . . I’m so glad we did that.”
“Yeah, it was a good time.” I reached over to lift her hand to my lips. “I’m sorry your grandma and your dad didn’t show up.”
Rilla took a deep breath and let it out slowly. “Thank you for saying that, but you know what? It’s all right. I was actually fine with it.” She squeezed my fingers. “Your family has become my family. And our friends–I couldn’t imagine us having a better, more supportive community.”
“We do have incredible friends,” I agreed. “I appreciate them especially right now since they all pitched in to keep their eye on Mom and Piper while we take our belated but very anticipated honeymoon.”
Rilla giggled. “I can’t believe they threw me a shower beforehand, too. And the gifts–let’s just say, none of them were housewares.” Her cheeks went pink. “My suitcase is filled with lots of things that are going to make you very happy, I think.”
“Oh, really?” I mimed a leer. “I wondered what went down at that ladies’ shindig. Every time I asked you, you got all embarrassed and waved me away. I was tempted to take a peek, but I didn’t want to ruin any surprises.”
“Trust me, you’ll have some surprises.” She shook her head. “I’ve never seen anything like some of the lingerie. And then the things that require batteries–“
“Whoa, now.” Suddenly, I was a lot less comfortable in the driver’s seat. “Are you talking toys, darlin’? Like sex toys?”
My wife’s face was burning up now. “I guess that’s what you’d call them.”
“Huh.” I passed her my phone. “Can you do me a favor and check to see if there’s a faster route to Crystal Cove, please?”
“Um, sure?” Rilla cocked her head. “Why?”
I lowered my voice. “Because just thinking about you in sexy nightgowns is making me incredibly horny–and then you mention sex toys? Babe, we gotta get to a place where we can be alone, and fast.”
She rolled her eyes, but I could see the pleasure reflected on her face. “Mason Wallace, you are incorrigible.”
I laughed softly. “And that’s the way you love me, babe.”
She slipped her hand into mine. “You’re right. I absolutely do.”
Then I put the pedal to the metal, and we got to our room at the bed and breakfast in Crystal Cove in record time. What happened next?
Well, that’s between me and my beautiful, sexy wife.
